BELIEVE WHAT YOU HEAR

Reputation counts for a lot in the Sports Touring market, and Yamaha’s FJR has one its competitors would sell their own mothers for.

Descended from a long line of FJ and FJR models that have pushed the performance and sophistication envelope for more than 25 years, the FJR1300’s pedigree is obvious – it’s a pure thoroughbred and a pinnacle in Sport Tourer evolutionary development.

JEWEL PURPOSE

Intricately designed to take hi-tech touring to the next level with its advanced aerodynamics, environment-friendly technology and sophisticated rider safety and comfort features, the FJR brings with it a clear duality of spirit.

Just stir that electric-smooth 1300cc fuel injected, in-line four, and you’ll see that the combination beautifully neutral handling, sportsbike running gear and a low C of G adds up to a sublime sports touring ownership experience.

♦   Smooth and fast. FJR’s DOHC, 16-valve, liquid-cooled inline four delivers a silky spread of shaft-driven muscle over a wide rpm range (145 hp @ 8000 rpm and 99 ft.-lbs. of torque @ 7000 rpm).
♦   Slant-block engine design uses stacked, tri-axis gearbox shafts to help minimize powerplant size, and is a fully stressed chassis member. It boils down to a lightweight frame design, optimised chassis geometry and great handling.
♦   Lightweight forged pistons with carburized connecting rods provide high strength and low reciprocating mass for outstanding high-rpm durability, while electroplated ceramic composite cylinder bores ensure greater heat dissipation and reduced frictional power loss.
♦   Low-vibration crankshaft with two gear-driven secondary counterbalancers help deliver a glass-smooth ride with reduced rider/passenger fatigue. Constant-mesh 5-speed transmission utilizes wide ratios to deliver relaxed long-distance touring performance combined with seamless power and acceleration. Gear shift shaft features a needle-roller bearing to reduce friction for silky-smooth shifting.
♦   The FJR offers outstanding rider comfort through a wide range of cockpit adjustability, including seat height, windscreen height, fairing, handlebar sweep angle and of course suspension can all be refined to tailor a perfect, comfortable, long-distance riding experience.
♦   Sharp-looking bodywork and air-management system keep the bike and rider cooler; a central vent beneath the instrument panel cools the rider and reduces negative pressure, and fairing side panels with 30mm adjustability let the rider direct airflow.
♦   Part of the advanced air management system, FJR’s big windscreen adjusts over a wide range. the vent on the adjustable windscreen feeds air up the rear side of the screen to dampen the air vortex that is formed as air passes over the top.
♦   Ergonomically shaped, large-capacity, 25-litre fuel tank offers excellent comfort and range and is constructed of steel to allow the use of magnetic tankbags.
♦   Standard accessory hard sidecases are conveniently matched to the ignition key. Subframe-fitted quick-release luggage mounts provide easy use of the bags. Glove box contains a 12V outlet for phones, GPS units, electric vests, etc.
♦   Instrument panel contains an electronic analogue speedometer and tachometer; LCD digital odometer, dual tripmeters, gear position indicator, fuel, coolant and air temperature gauges, and clock; lights for neutral, high beam, turn signals, low oil and engine warnings—as well as real-time mileage, average mileage and air temperature.
♦   Sleek, cat-eye dual 12V 60/55-watt multi-reflector headlights throws an extremely broad beam for superb visibility and feature easy-access adjustment knobs; mirrors are easy to adjust and retract horizontally.
