ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK
To find out which sport tourer represents every bike you’ll ever need, wrapped in one - just ask a TDM rider. Better make sure you’re seated comfortably first though… TDM riders are a passionate bunch.
Plenty of brands have now ‘recognised’ Yamaha’s design concept, but there’s still only one original, easy to spot by its 270-degree parallel twin.
ANGLE OF ATTACK
This cornerstone to the TDM concept provides the character of a V with the compact dimensions of an inline, as well as the engine flexibility for mountain twisties or weekday traffic. If you’re looking for a long distance explorer, adventure tourer, mountain road monster or chic and powerful urban commuter, talk to a TDM rider.
…Just make sure you’ve got plenty of time.
♦ Fuel injected Parallel-twin engine features a proven 5-valve head atop plated alloy cylinders, and a broad powerspread with bottom-end grunt, a stomping mid-range and punchy top-end.
♦ Large, easy to read tacho marks the progress of TDM’s meaty power spread – lusty all the way from 3000 to 9,000rpm.
♦ A compact 5-valve DOHC top-end is a factor in the TDM’s adrenaline-pumping upper rpm surge – and economical day-to-day running.
♦ Character in the crank. The parallel twin engine has a 270 degree crank configuration - the reason many liken the TDM’s character to a V-twin. Dual exhausts let that rumbling TDM beat rock.
♦ Flexibility of a six-speed transmission provides a low first gear for adventure situations, as well as a tall top gear to minimise revs/maximise fuel economy on the highway.
♦ The lightweight all-alloy chassis uses high-spec suspension and brake components, for sporty handling characteristics rivalling that of many supersport bikes.
♦ The proportion of front end weight distribution sits at almost 50% for sharp, bump-eating steering and handling performance.
♦ In a part of the world where the miles between destinations are long and the roads are narrow, bumpy, maybe even unsealed here and there, the TDM’s plush, adjustable front and rear suspension allows it to thrive.
♦ R1-derived dual 298mm disc brakes with Yamaha’s potent opposed-piston one-piece callipers provide excellent feel.
♦ Partially concealed from view by the futuristically-styled shrouds and mini fairing, the 20-litre fuel tank ensures an excellent range from the TDM’s economical engine.
♦ Plush, comfortable rider and passenger cushion and upright riding position maximises vision and visibility in traffic.
♦ Easy-to-read diagnostics include a large, centre-mounted analogue tacho, and digital speedo at left, all visible at a glance.
